Welcome
June 6, 2008: As of this date, CAST will be using a WordPress blog address for The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guidelines – Version 1.0 http://udlguidelines.wordpress.com. Please tell your colleagues and replace the Edublogs URL with the WordPress URL.
Why are we changing? Several colleagues brought to our attention that the Edublogs hosting service is not accessible to blind and low vision users. The major issue is that users are required to go through CAPTCHA in order to access Edublogs. The CAPTCHA function which requires users to look at random letters/numbers and enter what they see into a box is obviously not workable for blind and low vision users. After much back-and-forth with Edublogs and other hosting services on this issue, we have found that WordPress is the most accessible of the blog hosting services.
…………
The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guidelines aim to help educators design learning experiences and curricula that are more accessible, effective, and engaging for ALL students.
This blog provides a forum for educators and other education stakeholders (parents, policy makers, etc.) to share stories about applying the UDL Guidelines and identify new examples and resources that support application of the UDL Guideline options.
We welcome your comments on the Guidelines themselves, as well as suggestions on ways to share and implement them. The Guidelines will be updated to reflect user recommendations as well as changes in the learning sciences and technology. Welcome to the conversation.

Excellent Resource! I am glad to see the chart of guidelines and descriptions because I think that they provide a more focused description of what UDL represents. One thing that I think could be more vividly suggested is that teachers need to determine how each student recognizes, expresses and becomes engaged in an activity. Since CAST already has a student profile/class profile, could it be added or hyperlinked to this document? Finally, I really appreciate the examples for each guidline and will be using these in my future trainings. Donna
